When I was seventeen, I signed up with the National Marrow Donor Program. They took a tube of blood. Aside from the occasional e-mail and postcard, I don't hear from them very much. A friend of mine just got contacted by the National Marrow Donor Program, who told her that she is a match, and she is moving ahead with the interview/next steps to see if the person she matched with wants to proceed with a bone marrow donation. Would it be okay with you if I shared (c/ped) this post with her? She's both excited and scared, and I think it would really help her to read someone else's experiences. (Note: she's no one you know or would meet socially--she's a coworker of mine--and I am also happy to share anonymously if that's your preference.)
