Dust!

Maybe it was this way in AV and ME and CV, but for the life of me, I can't remember my room ever being so dusty as my room here in LA. skywalker404 just posted about electronics and dust ; is there any pro-active way to keep the dust away? I'm dusting 2-3 times per week and it's still here.

Maybe sharing a room with Ambition and Revenge was a bad idea. But I ( Read more... )

(most) Computers move a lot of air. I think that contributes to the dust getting all over the place. Add to the fact that you're in LA. The humidity there is significantly lower than it is in Irvine (or at least in the valley). I'm just guessing that drier air means either more dead skin cells or just more dead skin cells coming off even when you're not showering. There's also the LA pollution, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the extra dust was due to large particles in the air.

I've thought about getting air filter(s) when I have a real income. Have you thought about that? I've heard the sharper image ionic breeze is quiet and actually works. It doesn't have any fans, rather it's supposed to rely on a charge difference between its surface and the air to collect dust.

Can you explain this idea further? How much will it cost and how big is it?

I figure Greg will read my comments here as well. Computers get dusty because you blow air continously into the computer, which is a giant dust trap. Many computers these days air coming with washable air filters, which reportedly do wonders for the inside of the case. I have one, and the filter isn't anything expensive. You could probably buy either a large airfilter and cut it up and put it over your fans. Maybe a cheese cloth, anything to filter out the air, and you'd keep dust of your computer, and probably catch some of the dust circulating in your room. I wouldn't be surprised if some computers circulated more air than an ionic breeze.

I have no idea what a cheese cloth is, but where would I find one?

My case (an Antec Sonata) actually does have an air filter on it, and it still has a LOT of dust inside. This is most likely because it has other, unfiltered holes, which seems like a rather idiotic design oversight.

Read in poor lighting a lot and then don't wear glasses. Dust just Disappears!
