I've always thought of Ketchup as a quintessential American food, the representative of Western Cuisine, and a symbol of Pittsburgh around the world... and yet...

Well, according to the rest of the article, what we call ketchup is, in fact, an American food, even if it evolved from other foods of the same name.

yah, but it's still bewildering that the name is inspired from something of chinese/malaysian/asian descent... especially to me, who has always considered it somewhat... foreign.
