people keep telling me to put my feet on the ground
i get mad & scream/ there is no ground

only shit pieces from dogs horses & men who dont live

anywhere/ they tell me think straight & make myself

somethin/ i shout & sigh/ i am a poet/ i write poems/

ntozake shange was one of my first ever poetry crushes. i love her like crazy and was so happy to see her pop up on LJ in the midst of my forcing myself to finally unpack!

I've missed her.

I gave my copy of "for colored girls who have considered suicide/ when the rainbow is enuf" to a student of mine over 10 years ago. A tough but smart young lady I thought would appreciate Shange's words. I hope she did.
