The Primary Elections

After spending over 2 hours looking at the wikipedia pages up for both Hillary and Obama, as well as their own web sites I am more hateful of both of them than before. But I am less hateful of Hillary than I was expecting to be. I have also been reading the papers and listening to public radio. Though both of those outlets are more focused on their ( Read more... )

Personally, I'm actually quite happy with both Obama and Hillary, in fact happier with either of them then with Edwards or Kucinich ( ... )

Hmm. According to Wikipedia (which has been known to have errors, but I believe is correct on this point), he was elected to the House of Representatives in 2004, when we'd already been at war for 3 years. When we went to war, he was in the Illinois state legislature, and I don't believe that body had the opportunity to vote for or against the war.

Er, you're right about the date. I was thinking when we attacked Afghanistan (the FIRST war of the Bush administration).

And yes, he has been against it from the start (I had actually meant to put that in the original post, but by the time I finished checking Wikipedia, I had forgotten to bring it up). This is one of the reasons that I also like him, and intend to vote for him myself in the primary.

Almost all of the candidates currently running terrify me. I know a few people who seem to think Ron Paul is the end all be all of everything good in politics. Neither Hillary or Obama seem to be the best, and I'd question the likely hood of either of them getting elected over a white male, simply because it's SO against the status quo.

Really though, I need to do more research.

Honestly, I think Hillary being a woman and Obama being black will actually work to their advantage in the election, simply because those who match their demographic are willing to vote for them BECAUSE of their demographic, but those who don't match their demographic are, on the whole, too paranoid of being labeled as sexist or racist to vote against them on that basis.

I think it's awesome, though, that the only two real choices on the Democratic side right now are a woman and a black man.

And Ron Paul is, in my mind, a LONG way from a happy option. I'm comforted by the fact that he's like a distant 8th in the Republican primary. The one who terrifies me most on the Republican side is, quite predictably, Huckabee, because he's almost as extreme (though in very different ways), and is actually still doing moderately well.

Ron Paul really scares me, a lot. He is too extreme though to get elected, as was Kuchinich, so I'm not too worried.

Once again, it seems we much choose the lesser of evils. Now, if only I can figure out who is lesser....
