10 lbs by Christmas

For reasons that are undeniably foolish (fabulous prizes and the fact that the boy I date thinks I'm fat) I'm trying to lose 10lbs by Christmas. Sort of. I know it's stupid, that losing that much weight in less than a month would be a bad thing for my long term ass-kicking goals... Oh, yeah. It's my fault, I asked, but he said he doesn't like the fact that I'm chubby but he thinks I'm making an honest effort and that I'll get there.

Sooo... I feel lousy about it but... o/

Here's the thing...unless a doctor is talking to you about weight-related health issues, I tend to feel that there is a wide range of acceptable sizes. Unless you've gained a considerable amount of weight since the last time I saw you, you are most definitely at a healthy weight. I have no problem with goals like "I want to eat healthier/cut out some of the bad stuff" or "I want to get more exercise in," but I have MAJOR problems with ideas like "it's only okay that you're chubby because you're trying to change that fact so maybe eventually it won't be true any more and then I'll like you more than I do now." Now, you haven't quoted him saying that and I'm going to try not to read that whole statement into the meagre description you've given us of the interaction, but it's really hard not to get upset over the unhealthy way so many people in this society view themselves and each other and the pain and emotional trauma that people go through as a result. Your methods seem more sane than some, but I do hope you'll talk to a doctor about ( ... )
