In despair I turn to thee, o Intrawebs

Since May, when I tapered off Lexipro, the antidepressant I took for six years before that, I have been suffering a variety of withdrawal symptoms, but the only one that is STILL with me after four freakin' months is the insomnia.  My typical night now goes: bed at 9:30-10 pm, toss and turn until midnight, move to the couch, toss and turn another ( Read more... )

I don't have any suggestions, but since nobody else seems to either, I figured maybe I'm not adding too much noise to the signal if I pop up to offer *hugs*

That does help, actually. *hugs back* The silence was starting to deafen me.

Wish I knew anything at all about this. I never did find anything vs insomnia, till I started taking 1/2 a benadryl at night vs allergies, and ended up faceplanting from that.

-Eliminate all caffeine (except that from chocolate, if needed). Even decaffeinated tea and coffee contain caffeine. But roobios contains no caffiene and tastes a lot like black tea. Read labels very carefully: anything containing rose hips or chicory also contains caffeine I believe. Even though I'm currently and happily on lexapro, I can't sleep if I consume caffeine from any source other than chocolate, no matter the time of day ( ... )

The sonorous quality of the slightly deeper purr of a male cat sends me right to sleep, especailly when I am anxious. Hmm, maybe I can record Cabby cat purring and send it to you. Or perhaps we can find male cat purrs recorded on the internet somewhere.

I too have been sleeping less well for the last few weeks, and it is purely due to the muggy heat. Sleeping nude with not too many covers, and with the window open once the weather cools helps a lot.

I've had good luck with OTC sinus drugs, like Sudafed. I think Benadryl also works. Tylenol PM, maybe? I think all of these have sample sizes, so you can see if any of them work before buying a larger supply.

elfs has reported success with cold showers; apparently lowering body temp tells the brain it's time to sleep.

5 Steps to Hacking Your Sleep recommends ice baths; you might get results from less intense cold. The other ideas there might also be worthwhile.
