Which is one of the reasons why we need to overhaul the relationship-name system entirely. My relationship to my brother's wife is different than my relationship to my (hypothetical) wife's (hypothetical) sister. Although the current system has the advantage that I am the brother-in-law of my brother-in-law.
The biggest offender is of course the "cousin-X-removed" system, which implies a symmetry in my relationship with my cousin's children (they are my first cousins once removed, and I am theirs) that is clearly not present, since they are 2 and 4 respectively.
