I am never eating eggs again. My mother made us breakfast today (which was nice), but she gave us a ton of eggs (I estimated two each, because I can't imagine the alternative). thedailyplate.com tells me that I have already consumed 142%(!!!) of my cholesterol for the day ( Read more... )

babe, if you don't already have a tendency towards high cholesterol a few eggs a week won't do anything to you, and they're a really fucking amazing little package of protein, fat and carbs. NOM NOM.

(...of course, I prefer mine fried in lakes of butter, so.)

No, I most decidedly DO have a tendency toward high cholesterol. My whole paternal family is on Lipitor or equivalent, and my HDL/LDL ratio is in the "NOT GOOD" area, even at my age. I am trying, with exercise and diet, to bring it down--or at least develop better habits so I don't need Lipitor--but I have had no such luck in the last year.

Egg whites or egg beaters for me!

Oh, I love Egg Beaters. I usually eat my eggs scrambled anyway, with something fun in them (like the zucchini my mother put in today... mmm), so there's no difference in my mind (palette?). Bacon and sausage have been easier since I've been living with a vegetarian and making dinner for both of us... but the Wawa Italian Shorti will always be my secret lover.

At least I stopped getting extra meat and bacon on my hoagies.

I'm a 2 whites/1 full egg kind of guy. For omelettes, whites only cook too damn fast, and I like the little bit o'fatty goodness with it.

But it's been a long time since I ate everyone's hard-boiled egg yolks at Passover.

The more I learn about "tasty food" and its ability to "kill me at 35", the less "tasty" it gets. It's like staying in a relationship with someone who happens to be around when you "fall down the stairs" a lot.

I don't splurge "occasionally". Also, my family history of cholesterol and my developmental history of comfort in food doesn't really lend itself toward eating responsibly unless I regiment myself. And show myself exactly what I'm doing to my body when I put something in my mouth.

As it were.
