Ungrateful Impatient BEEP

Aug 06, 2011 01:26

My sister broke her leg last weekend and I've had the kid ever since.  School is about to start, so I have to do all the running for that on top of taking my sister on her errands and doctor's appointments.  Not to mention I have to find a job asap and no one likes it when you drag a bratty six year old with you to an interview.  So I haven't had ( Read more... )

website, rant, scanlations

You don't know me from Eve, but I've been following you for a couple of years now, starting when I found your website and later stalking you on LJ (after I got my own account and stopped bumming my roommate's account). I have enjoyed your work and always greet a new post from you with unrestrained glee.

Unfortunately, there are people out there with their heads so far up their asses that they have to have daylight shipped in.

I won't argue with you if you want to change the password to keep silly little trolls like that from enjoying the yummy scans you provide. As a way to prove a point, it's effective and less complicated than other options. And whether you do or not, I'll still be here because I'm smart enough to follow instructions. XD

Thank you. ^^ I want to start changing the password regularly, that way I *can* make good on my threat when someone pushes me. But first I have to change the way I go about giving people the password, that way regulars will be able to find the new one easily, and there won't be a ridiculously long wait for first-time visitors. The password was meant to keep the hard parts of my site invisible to google, not to lock out yaoi fans.

Wow... Yet another kid with you-fucking-owe-me attitude, I swear Internet is full of them. =_=;
I say change the password even if just to prove your point. And, seriously, don't waste time replying to those password requests (I bet you have better things to do with your time). Just link them to friend-locked entry here and save yourself a heap of trouble. You don't owe anyone anything, girl. Think of yourself first and foremost.

I used to do that, link them to a friends locked post. But you can only have 1000 friends and I hit my limit. That's why I made the dj community, telling people to go join that instead because there's no limit on how many people can join.

In my FAQ I link people to the lj community and tell them to join it and read the very first post. But a lot of people don't have livejournal, and a lot of people who *do* have livejournal can't find the first post. Half the password requests I get are from people who say they've already joined the community, but they can't find the first post. ^^;

Hmm Make the password post the top post in community by dating it far in the future? They'd have to be bloody blind not to see it. FAQs are always be treated as tl;dr, so make a short post which clearly outlines the steps needed to acquire the password. If they can't read past few lines... they're not worth wasting your time on them.

I tried changing the date on a post to the future, hoping it would float to the top of the page, but it didn't work. I'm still an lj newb. ^^; Someone suggested linking to the password post each time I share a hard project in my com. That would fix the problem pretty quick. Or I can get someone who knows how to design lj groups to come in and pin a post at the top for me. But I'd hate to make someone a mod just so they can pin a post for me.

Thanks. ^^ I sort of lied to her. I do get thanks on my lj community and in my guestbook. They're the ones that keep me excited about sharing new projects, because I know someone in the com will enjoy the scanlation as much as I did. They make this hobby worthwhile.

I keep saying I need a secretary to help me with the password requests. But I can't imagine asking someone else to help me with my site, even if it's just answering password requests for me. With my site, I'm very possessive. I have this whole "I bought it, I built it, I update it, therefore I can destroy it without answering to anyone" thing. I doubt I ever would delete my site, but I could if I wanted to. If someone else helped me with it then I'd feel guilty for throwing their hard work away. I'd be *obligated* to keep the site up as long as I can afford to do so. Telling myself I can quit and delete the site any time I feel like it keeps this hobby from becoming a chore.

I'm so sorry to hear about this e-mail. People nowadays are so rude and they just want anything, any time without thinking about consequences.
About the chancing of the password, I think you have al the rights to do it, it can be a good way to get rid of people like that, probably.

It's okay, you could post it in either one. I posted to both hoping to vent enough that I won't do anything drastic without thinking it over first. ^.~
