I used CPAP for quite a long time. It works, but you definitely feel like something else when you go to bed. I recommend the mask that goes over your nose and has nasal pillows, as opposed to the whole nose mask. The former is far more comfortable, less likely to leak, and easier to clean. These days I have an oral device, like a retainer, that is sufficient to avoid severe apnea conditions. It was made by a specialist in LA and cost about a $1000 to make I think, but it worked and is less annoying then CPAP. Of course, what works for me may not work for you.
Finally, the better shape you are in the better your apnea condition will be.
Yeeks.... do you have insurance that would cover either one? I've never used a CPAP, but it definitely seems less invasive than oropharynx surgery, so logic would dictate to try that first. Good luck!
