I don't remember, but sudeenly I realise that as much as I love photos of people and good times, and great places and food, I'm now only into photos with very precice composition. Stark colours. Very surrelistic at times

The composition of that image is actually pretty interesting, but you're right: I don't like it. It's too busy for my liking. The cone, the four orange supports and the white line work beautifully, but the shadow, the road patch and the truck all detract from the simplicity of the effect.
Anyway, 'pretentious' is a silly self-deprecating term to apply to yourself. If you appreciate a picture because it evokes a genuine response in you, then there's no harm in saying so.
I really like all the 90degree angle that are happening. And if you think it's too busy, make it bigger.
I find that people always think the smaller version is more choppy, and then when you see the bigger version it all makes sense. And it's so... obvious too. :) You might also not like it then, but try it. Also, it will depend on the size of your screen: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2769/4420162846_7caf337b12_b.jpg Maybe you will want the bigger version. But the larger size was taking to long to load. :)
I think pretension isn't necessarily bad. Sometimes beauty for beauty's sake is important. And that's part of what being pretentious is IMO.
I'd define pretentiousness as the deliberate affectation of a cultured persona in discourse without genuine appreciation of the subject matter. I think that's almost the diametric opposite of the appreciation of beauty for beauty's sake. :)
Hrm, no definition in Mac dictionary (it does say 'pretentious' is 'attempting to impress by affecting greater importance'.) For me, it rather means to value your opinion of something subjective really highly, and then to come to value it more because it rare/select/different. I would say I value my 'photographic eye', and that since it is less accepted (and I see somewhat analogous to other art photographers) it is more special for me. :) I wouldn't say I push it on others, which is what the Mac seems to think.
