The first one of the girls in the tunnel does look very weird to my eyes, and I thought so before reading your comment. The smaller girl's head looks fake as though it was edited in. The second one I like a lot more and think there is nothing wrong with eyes being closed.

The nature one is gorgeous and I think you should print it as big as possible :) I would be very happy if I had a huge print of it up in my house.

"Alone" makes me think of an old man hiding behind a tree photographing small children. Which is certainly thought-provoking, but I don't think that would sit very well with the sort of audience you will find at the royal show, though it might only be me who sees it like that.

I always find reflection/sunset type photos dulllll but that is just my lack of an artistic eye being able to interpret much more from them that it's in focus and the colour is pretty.

Also, I would die a little inside if photos of lightning won.

Well, I have reshopped it here. But now everything is too dark. I don't think I am going to submit it.

I love the nature print too, older people (i.e. the audiences I expect to have in the Royal Show, families of 2) seem to think it's boring. :P I'm putting it in anyway. But a waterfall will probably win (but I still love my bird).

Haha, and yet I have printed it out and everyone I showed it too really loved it. But I get what you mean.

Yeah I think they are dull too. But I thought people who I would need to worry about (judges/audience) would like them.

Monochrome: I really like Alone or Anybody's Shed.
Colour: I really like Day After The Storm. I think its your best colour one. I know some of the nature/reflection shots are probably more technically competent but I really like the broken glass as a subject.

Can you enter any of your storm colour ones in the nature category? I would.

I don't think you should be scared of entering your things against lightning and storm photos, there'll be so many, it'll be hard for those to look special or creative. There might still be some exceptional one that wins but you might as well compete with the photos that you like, you don't have to win.

I will definitely be putting the shed in. I don't know about Alone, but reapsta's entire family all voted on 'Alone' as the one to submit.

Nah, none of these photos are my best technical work. Lets face it, my best technical work is probably my portraiture because it involves flash. Since I have nothing HDR (ergh HDR) all the photoshopping just requires a few layers.

Umm, the definition is "Nature - Nature photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and the wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs. Photographs of animals, which are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint, as well as photographs of cultivated plants are ineligible. Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as barn owls or storks, adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves, reclaiming it. The photographer, whatever photographic medium is used, must have taken the original image. Any manipulation or ( ... )

If you entered the shed and it won it would be the first time that shed has been useful since I moved in here.

The Day After The Storm is fantastic and should definitely beat lightning. The colours in it are amazing, and it captures the devastation in a raw way that the post-storm (and storm lightning) shots can't.

I like the bird picture for its colours also.

(I don't think it will win, but everyone here loves it. :)

Oh yay, I am definitely submitting it now.

The bird one I love, I am hoping to put it in, but reapsta's nana told me it was boring and unoriginal.

Danica, these are great :-) I like the reflection and tunnel ones the most.

Thanks! I will be putting in the tunnel one, and maybe the first reflection one. I'm still very unsure. I don't have to be sure until July.

"A Breast of Gold" isn't showing up for me. ?
I don't think you should be so worried about lightning photos. What does it matter? Comparing your photos to lightning photos seems deeply strange to me. :P They're good, don't stress. Lightning photos are striking but if there's going to be as many as you seem to be saying, your photos will stand out and be striking for their difference, before you even consider the quality of the photos. IMO.
My favourites are "Anybody's Shed" and "The Day After The Storm."

It's showing up for me now. The forthehor.de server was probably down.

It matters because I want to win, I don't think there is any prestige from being in the Perth Royal Show comp, and so I want to increase my chances of winning money. :) And lighting shots make people gasp.

Cool those are getting in. :P

I didn't mean 'what does it matter' in a general sense, (Uh, I mean I didn't mean it in a way that meant.. oh forget it! Maybe this would be easier in person to talk about?)

I mean... well, I suppose the Royal Show is a long way away so you would have the opportunity to take lightning photos if you wanted (probably, I suspect it would be tricky), and I'm assuming you don't want to. So, since you don't want to take photos of lightning, it's kind of crying over spilt milk to worry about them not being lightning ( ... )

P.S OMG A Breast of Gold is my new favourite.
ENTER IT!
I love the way that the gold is repeated in the picture, the clear blue of the sky...

Did you manipulate the colours or was the tone of the leaf really that similar to the tone of the bird's feathers?

(Can I please have this in a big file so I can use it as a wallpaper? I heart it.)

I love that the bird is on the third line, too. GOLDEN MEAN Yo.

But I think that heaps of people would love that photo. It looks like a painting!
