Bermuda Lights - Gig Shots

Oct 18, 2010 17:01

Yes yes yes, they're very noisy. But I was pushing 6400 ISO, and 1.8f (I'm surprised any of they are in focus the time it take the prime to focus... and I hate manual focus, so shoot me).

At least 50% of the reason I bought my 7D.

Because only jerks use flash.

There's a time and a place for flashes, but this isn't it. Those photos are awesome. For your next trick, you need a f/1.2L 50mm ;)

Oh, yeah, I meant at a gig.

Thanks! I know, I know, it is my next lens that I plan (like in the future when I have a real job. :)

This may be an odd comment, it might even be taken as an insult even though that isn't how I mean it (I don't know you photographers and what you care about :P).

Anyway, looking at these photos before I felt like they weren't night shots, but rather that the band was in a dark hall or church with soft, warm, late afternoon light through stained glass windows. I don't know. There is a silence, or reverence, I guess due to the fast camera speed it shows not action but pose, and that makes it seem meaningful in a way. The weight of a moment. Doing their thing as if the external world need not exist. Or something.

It's not an insult!

I really liked the gold lighting from behind and I really liked the different glass features in the background which I highlighted a lot. It's just an added bonus that it gives you a reverent sort of feel! That makes it different/interesting/good.

That first one is magic. Drum kit flash and chaos on one side against zen serenity on the other, works beautifully.

I also like 5 and 6 together but mainly for Corrin going from Serious Rock Face to d'awwww. :)

Thanks! I actually really glad about that photo, the drummer was the worst lit of the lot and stuck in the back (and looked a little nervous when I started taking photos of him).

I described flyingmopsy's face as :3c (because it is). :P
