I have been starting to plan out my next  D and D game, but I want to make changes to the system. I honestly think I will have D and D 3.25 or even 3.75 by the time I'm done. The reason behind this is that in my last game magic became too relied upon. I have no problem with that if their is a mage in the group, but there wasn't until the last ( Read more... )

Well, I know I look forward to a grittier, down and dirty kind of game, which is why I'm thinking of doing D20 modern for my zombie game instead of D&D. It's a little more realistic, though of course you can find ways to get healed rather than just rest. But you don't have a character walking around that has "bandaids" that will heal you up without issue.

Hehe. Clerics = renewable bandaids.

that's been my opinion of 3.x from the start. I really wonder about a "world" economy where you can walk down to the "magic shop" and just buy any magical item you see listed in the book. isn't magic supposd to be mystrious or at least not something the average joe can pick up at the store?

It's one thing if you were playing hackmaster where it's supposed to be all out of wack - but if you're playing in a fatasy world you need to leave some realism in it or it becomes too much a cartoon.

me? I severly restric magic, revised the poison rules, and brough back disease.. loads of fun with a party with montazuma's revenge :)

The low-level game I'm starting is going to be in a small town in the middle of nowhere. They want magic items? They're going to have to MAKE the magic items!

Or, you know, travel a month and a half through unsettled territory to get to the big city where they could buy it with the money they probably won't have.

It's up to them.
