That's Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with G and that stands for Gays....and that rhymes with A's and those, when Scarlet, stand for Adultery!

I remember hearing in the days leading up to the last election that allowing Teh Gazors to continue getting married would force churches to hire gays and perform their weddings or lose their tax-Read more... )

That's pretty brilliant, actually. Hadn't thought of that argument before.

:D Thanks!

Do I know you? :D Not that I mind, I just normally only get comments from friends or friends of friends.

I'm hoping we can get it called "Proposition Scarlet A."

Your innate ability and desire to point out logical flaws in the arguments that are afoot in both the gay marriage debate AND Catholicism is of little use here. It's an inherently illogical debate. On both sides -- though in my own worldview the folks who are against legal gay marriage tend to hoard most of the ill-logic for themselves.

Questions for you:
1. Why do we need (or want) government sanction over marriage in the first place?

2. Presuming you answer to #1 is that in some fashion, we want to encourage pro-creation, then why do we want that? Moreover, why is government interested in supporting and encouraging pro-creation?

I'm not a libertarian (and certainly not a Libertarian) but honestly, why government is involved in this at all is beyond me. I support gay marriage, but only after making peace that, from a practical standpoint, getting government out of sanctioning (or not sanctioning as the case may be) marriage is not going to happen.

Amen!

On a completely different note, I read the entire article and found an funny/tragic tidbit at the end.

The school asked her if his previous marriage had been annulled (apparently the catholic church is just hung up on the WORD divorce, you can still get it done if you call it something else) and she said no, so they fired her. So AFTER the wedding the guy calls up his first wife and finds out that their marriage had been annulled, he just hadn't been paying attention.

So she was fired for even less of no good reason than the stated stupid reason.
