So, in no particular order:

Mom--currently out of town through to next weekend. Though I do have a dinner date with my Dad tomorrow night. He is cooking me steak. I never say no to steak. Unless I'm the one paying for it of course.

Things I know I own but cannot find: Immersible blender. Flannel night gowns. Light bulbs.

Tonight's supper:

Okay. So delicious if I do say so myself! You will need 1/2 a medium sized squash (I prefer acorn, but that's just me) cooked (you may bake or steam or whatever you do to it, cooks choice) and then cubed. A few strips of bacon chopped, a small onion chopped, some sausage sliced into rounds (or crumbled if you get it uncased), broth (vegetable or chicken), milk or cream (cooks choice), and whatever vegetables you are trying to get rid of. chopped

In a soup pot, cook the bacon down until crispy. Remove the bacon to drain. Put in the onions and any other raw vegetables that would need to cook through. Also add about 1/2 of the cubed cooked squash. Cook until everything is tender. Add about 1/2 a cup to 1 cup of chicken stock (depending on how much soup you want out of it), and about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the milk/cream. Put in the sliced sausage, the crispy bacon, and anything else you want to add to thicken the soup (I used creamed corn which actually turned out really well!). Add any seasonings or herbs you like (I added cumin, red pepper flakes, and a few whole pepper corns. You do not need to go that spicy if you don't want to. Salt and Pepper work just fine too). Simmer until the consistency pleases you (you can always add more cream/creamed corn/some cornstarch if it isn't think enough for you. Or more stock if it is too thick) Right before you are ready to serve, add the rest of the cooked squash and whatever garnish pleases you (parsley, green onion, sour cream, cheese, what have you). Serve with bread and butter or bread sticks.

As I more or less through this together using what was in my fridge feel free to substitute or add things as it pleases you. This makes a great leftover dish. The pot I made with the amounts above made about 8 servings.
