Knitting and steampunk

So I've knitted a steampunk shawl. I really like how it came out, and I'm thinking of either knitting another to sell at a con or selling this one. The problem of course, is pricing the darned think. The yarn alone in this was $66, (it's a hand-dyed rayon with a copper metallic thread that I wish showed up better in pictures) and it took nearly ( Read more... )

OH WOW that is incredible. I am in serious awe of the skills you posses to make that!

Pricing though ughhh, I'd say it's value would be 200.00 easy BUT from what I've heard, at All-con, which had a huge Steampunk presence, it was hard for vendors to sell anything over 80.00.

But, I've also heard Dallas cons have cheapskate attendees. Based on Renn. Fair pricing, I think you could go 100 to 150 on this, maybe even 200 if you promote it's on of-a-kindness. It'll all depend on the looseness of people purses at the con.

You could also highball it at first then lower it to an acceptable know price Sunday. If people see something discounted it help sell it.

No less than 3 times price of yarn is my first rule.

You can calculate the hours you worked on it, and then give yourself minimum wage (plus the price of the yarn) -- that'd probably be exorbitant from most people's viewpoint, but you shouldn't sell yourself short.

Is this a pattern of your own? Because if it is, you should put it up on Ravelry for a modest price -- I bet you'd get buyers.

My first thought was $200, too. I am never afraid to pay top dollar for an item that I know is hand-made and somewhat unique. If that pattern is popular, or if you plan on making 5 more just like it, maybe $100 then. There's something wishy-washy about $150 to me. LOL!

Amazing work. I want to see you or someone ELSE wearing it, because I'm not sure how it works. Because I am dense that way. ~_^

*HUGS*
