High-tech entrepreneurs killed when nobody should have been flying

Let's take a look at this.

My husband is a small plane pilot. The way it works is that pilots are rated/certified for certain things. For instance, my husband is not instrument rated, meaning that the visibility has to have a certain clearance. The other thing is that clearance can change very rapidly, espeically here in the Bay Area. Often my husband will check his weather gadget thingy and the clearance will be so much and then an hour later, it could be drastically different, especially with the fickle bay area fog. It could have happened where he took off with a certain ceiling, but landed in an area later where the clearance was different

I should say that the reason I say small planes are still safe is that you have a much higher probability of being killed in a car accident. But we dont' hear about every single fatal car wreck.

So I talked w/ hubby about this and he's friends with a guy that was a partner to the pilot.
What my husband thinks happened is that one engine failed (this model of plane has two) and with the fog, he ended up going the opposite way he was supposed to, right into the powerlines (instead of away from them). He said that he's flown out of that airport and the way it is set up, there is little room for error so mechanical failure + weather spells disaster.
He also said that the pilot WAS instrument rated and was a really good pilot. So I guess he just had some dumb luck.
And so very tragic for all involved
