What my husband thinks happened is that one engine failed (this model of plane has two) and with the fog, he ended up going the opposite way he was supposed to, right into the powerlines (instead of away from them). He said that he's flown out of that airport and the way it is set up, there is little room for error so mechanical failure + weather spells disaster.
He also said that the pilot WAS instrument rated and was a really good pilot. So I guess he just had some dumb luck.
And so very tragic for all involved
