Well, I think it pretty safe for me to make an big announcement without the chance of it not going through and me having to intert foot->mouth.
As of Friday, October 8, I will be employed as a software engineer at a company called Digital Foundry up in Tiburon, North of the bay. This is a pretty big step for me because it finally validates those 6 years of college I went through to get a BS in Computer Science. So, needless to say I am extremely happy, and a bit relieved. Because of the current state of the tech industry, especially in the bay area, my hopes were running pretty thin that I might actually find reasonable work here and at my skill level. And I really wasn't looking forward to the idea of maybe having to move to find work. Not only is the idea of packing up everything and moving kind of unpleasant (though I wouldn't mind it sometime down the road, I've been in the bay area for a while now and it would be interesting to move on) but I've just recently fallen in love and I do not want to trouble a perfect relationship by driving a wedge of a couple thousand miles in between us. I think Meg would agree. ^_^ So yeah, I'm stoked! And the pay is WAY better then Sony so maybe I can finally do all those things I neglected now that I can afford them, like fixing my car and going to the dentist. :P Maybe I can get the rice rocket I always wanted too. ~_^ But anyway, that's my big announcement.
I'm actually really suprised I got the position in all truth. From what I've been told, they took 175 applicants for the position (the rest they turned away). That was about 3 weeks ago. About a 3-4 days after I turned in my resume, I got a call randomly while riding the BART and they gave me a phone interview. Week after that they gave me another phone interview. Then last week, think it was Thursday, they called up and asked me to come in for a interview. So I went in for the interview, which was Tuesday, and for 1.5 hours I got tag-team interview. I talked to 3 people, each one of them going through the gamut of questions and each asking a logic or programming question. Felt pretty good after all that though. I thought it went pretty well and apparently so did they because Wensday they gave me a call and told me the good news. Oh man, that last time I was that excited was when I graduated.
Anyway, in other news, I had a pretty interesting weekend last week. Spent much of the weekend hang out at Meg's place while she worked on writing a paper for her class. Played a lot of video games, made her breakfast and dinner and generally had a good time. It was nice to spend some real quality time with the girl. But I learned that a weekend in the house playing videogames and watching movies is not for me anymore. Remember the good old days when you'd go out and rent a video game for 2 days and spend the entire weekend trying to beat it before you returned it. Yeah, I can't do that anymore. I get stir crazy. I didn't spend the entire weekend at her place though. For a few hours I went up to Sacramento to help out a good friend at an art show. He's and artisan who makes beautiful hardword furniture. (www.rogercombs.com) Anyway, it was the standard fair. I've helped him with a few shows I know the routine by now. What made the trip exciting was after we finshed we hit up this trendy sushi bar next to the convention center. OMFG! What amazing sushi we had. One roll in particular was by far the best roll I have ever eaten. The "chef's special" started with fatty Toro (yes, in a roll) and avacado I think in an inverse roll (rice on outside) On top of that was layers hamachi and unagi, all cover in japanese Mayo and a tangy sweet sauce. Then the plate was done up in Mayo and sweet chili sauce. Wow, I've never seen a roll that extravigant. And we got out of there with a tab of less then $100 which is good for us. All and all a good end to a good weekend.
And for the last part of my rant, I don't know if you guys remember but I used to post a picture with every LJ post. I got out of that habit partly due to lazyness and partly because I lost my webspace at school (stupid graduation) Anyway, I've got space again so I'm going to try and get back to posting picts again. So here you go, a nice pict of the SF skyline as seen from Treasure Island. And someone special in the middle (and I don't mean short bus special). :p
