The film revolution will be televised!

May 29, 2006 13:04

If the film revolution came tomorrow, who would be first against the wall? My nominees:
-Jerry Bruckheimer
-Michael Bay
-Joel Schumacher
-Steven Spielberg

That's just the first four. Second question: are assassinations of film tyrants morally excusable based soley on cultural crimes against humanity?

Probably not, but a boy can dream!

Yeah, he's pretty much the Hitler/Stalin/Pol Pot/Mussolini/Nixon of film tyrants.

yeah, bruckheimer. although early on he produced some ccol stuff including the paul schraeder thriller 'american gigolo' (starring richard gere) he's responsible for LOTS of (influential) television that is utter shite. years ago when asked in an interview what his main goal in making movies was he said 'asses in seats'. i rest my case.

Why can't you agree to disagree? If you see film as a art, and others see it as business, then it seems you are actually involved with two completely different aspects of film. There is always going to mass entertainment, why the animosity towards it? Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you have to violently hate it. I'm not saying this to stir up up, I am really asking.

I never said there was anything wrong with entertainment, or entertainment that is popular. My problem is with entertainment that numbs its audience, that forces a false lowest common denominator, and that creates a homogenous culture. And I certainly never mentioned censorship in any form. Fighting what I stand against is my choice and does not constitute censorship in any form ( ... )
