There's this Spanish family show called Los Serrano where the magnificient
Nuria González and
Belén Rueda work together.
This is Nuria González:
And this is Belén Rueda:
They are OBVIOUSLY the perfect couple but for some reason (this is a traditional family show) they are just friends (or that is what we are lead to believe).
Here's a quick review of their story (sorry for the poor quality of some pics).
Lucía (Belén Rueda, on the right) and Candela (Nuria González, on the left) are two school teachers who have been friends since forever. They are both married to some man and have some kids, but there's such a great chemistry between them! I absolutely love every scene they share and I also am a bit horrified for the partners they have to endure.
Candela is married to this good guy that has no brain -at all. She's a brilliant, curious woman who would like to travel and go to the theatre and fancy restaurants at least once a year but... He's a mechanic who doesn't want to do anything more than watch soccer, have beers with his friends and fuck. They are kind of good together but she could have had someone much more fulfilling!! You can clearly see how she's trapped in this common life that wasn't what she would have wanted... and all because she got pregnant at 17.
Lucía is married to this man who's also a good person (more or less, because the kind of "fun" jealousy she has to endure...) but also is very poor sometimes as a partner. They have 5 kids from previous marriages and once they're together she takes care of everything, children and house, on top of working at her school, and he doesn nothing but make her crazy with his mad ideas and his jealousy (well, and work all day at his bar).
So that's why anytime Lucía and Candela are together you can see the screen screaming at you who good they are together, who much they understand each other and how bad, in contrast, their relationships are (because, obviously, this show wouldn't pass the
Bechdel test so, in addition, most of the time they only talk about marriage stuff).
They're both fun, interesting, smart ladies who anyone would like to have lunch with. They guys... not so much. And there's this great vibe between them (I'm sure the actresses are good friends) that you just can't kill.
It's a shame the show is so greatly based on the lifes of the men on it.
And this is my little rant for today. If you like obvious women couples that writers didn't want to out, like me, I have cookies!
