Computer troubles suck but I'm glad to know that you're still around. My guess is try the monitor or take it to a computer place and make them try the monitor and then worry.
Well, the desktop computer is still down, but now my laptop is working! Whee! :D It's still doing a couple of weird things that it used to do (like constantly telling me my hardware is ready to remove, in the form of the laptop's DVD player) -- but as long as I can access the internet, I'm content for now. I just can't afford to take either computer into a repair shop for fixing at present.
Happy Turkey day)) I'm really glad to see you again at my friends page! Well, you seem to a have real trouble with your monitor. Not long ago something of this kind (a bit different though) happened to my monitor and I had to buy a new one. If not changing the very monitor in order to check if your computer's alive I can only recommend to try and change a monitor cable (as it's easier to find than another free monitor). And yes, btw, you can try to enter your monitor's menu using special monitor buttons. If it doesn't work, it most probably means that the problem is exactly in the monitor. Anyway I'm not an expert. But I hope your computer will recover soon and I'd be glad to see your posts more often))
Thank you for the comment! :D I was actually going to try hooking the monitor up to my laptop (which was also broken, or so I thought, but it would still load up to the boot-up screen, so I figured this would at least tell me if the monitor was working). But I tried booting the laptop up on a whim, and lo and behold! It works! So I've given up on the desktop computer for now. Somebody, when I have extra money again, I'll probably take both computers to a shop. But for now, I'm just happy to have net access, junkie that I am!
I appreciate your suggestions though, and if my laptop dies again (*knocks on wood!*) I'll definitely look into the monitor cable possibility. And in the future I hope to have more interesting things to post about than my comp troubles! *g*
Ugh, that sounds annoying. Can I buy a graphics card separately to replace the fried one, I wonder? (And is it insanely expensive?) Forgive my absolute ignorance here. I can do some googling on the subject, too, although happily my laptop appears to be up and working, so at least I have an alternative for now!
It's neither insanely expensive, nor very hard to do. On the contrary. And yes, of course you can -- if you have a graphics card, replace it; if the graphics were part of the motherboard, stick in a new additiional graphics card, and that will take dominance.
There is only one problem: if your desktop computer is old, it's very likely that the slot type has already gone out of production. That happens all the time.
Yay!! *HUGS you TIGHT* I am so glad to hear about the improved state of your laptop - and it will run faster for you, too! I hope that you have a very happy Thanksgiving holiday. :)
Faelyn is no looking at me expectantly wondering when we can write for she and Isabella. *grin* It does not help that I just had a very intense erotic dream involving Monsieur Rush. ;)
That doesn't sound good. My monitor crashed at one point, but it "warned" me beforehand, the red colour sort of came and went. I don't have any tips for you, apart from trying to plug in a different monitor, as you mentioned, but I hope you'll be able to solve the problem! And it's great that you have the laptop, at least, so you can get online :-)
