From my father

My wife,Companion,Friend,Parole Officer,Shepard,Sheep Dog,of the last 54 years has a family associated condition called Dementia. She is the sole survivor of seven brothers and sisters, turned 70 years old Feb 24 past. She is now in a nursing home in Sealy Texas.

She was Salutatorian At Royal High school in Pattison Texas as well as a Twirler, and band member playing Trombone, and excelling at playing Basketball as well as volleyball.During our time together she bore two boys, spent three weeks in Zion National Park on horseback, walking, hunting Desert Big Horn sheep, sleeping on the ground and cooking over a camp fire with only a guide and his wife as companions.Although unsuccessful she later shot Antelope in Wyoming,Mule deer in Utah,White tailed deer in Texas. We hunted mule deer in New Mexico twice. She could build her own fire and cook in dutch ovens. She enjoyed white water rafting, trout fishing, and exploring and all the cats she could find.

She and a friend went on a two trip with five kids from northern Utah to Canada touring and staying in the Yellowstone Park log cabin with no time schedules. She is very patient and complains very little.I have never heard or seen her be rude or speak ill of others.

She was a very good seamstress, cook, mother, loved jigsaw puzzles,Scrabble, enjoyed a good cold beer and laughed easily and could sit and read for hours,or just watch birds coming to the feeder. As Dementia started its assault the smiles and laughter slowed and faded into a helpless silence broken only once by a five hour startling period of lucidity, talking, walking, playing with the dogs by name, asking to go eat shrimp. She has maintained her weight within fifteen pounds since high school, still has an awareness of staying clean.

We have had a very good life, from our Honeymoon, stretching from here to Florida and the only person I followed into Carlsbad Cavern. We married even tho I had no work and went on a two week Honeymoon. There are many many more good memories and laughter than the relentless grinding spiraling grip of Dementia.

I am grateful and thankful that she is getting 24 hour care

PS-We were hunting alone in Tia Arima- northern- New Mexico, sleeping on a mattress in the bed of a pickup on a mattress, killed a deer and was leaving for home,we we stopped to buy groceries and gas and were told how crazy we were because local Indians had seized the courthouse and State and Federal authorities were involved and the tribe members were threatening nonmembers with death-we were completely unaware-The US even brought in Tanks before it was resolved
