So I've been thinking lately about the paths that people's lives take. I wonder how malleable they really are? How often does it really happen that one ill thought out statement, one chance meeting, one action of any kind, changes a life's path dramatically? We can not easily see which of our choices become pivotal in our lives. A decision to write to "just one more person on this dating site", can make a huge difference, or perhaps be not important at all. I have begun to see why the ancients attributed what happens in our lives to "The Fates", because there does seem to be a great deal of randomness in the outcomes of seemingly reasonable choices. I think generally we can predict likely outcomes of our choices, but sometimes a choice will have huge consequences, and the huge consequences are totally unexpected ( ... )
