So I recently saw the new film and I need to rant about it somewhere, so I shall do it here. lol Warning; My rant may be kind of spoilery.
[This is what I posted on the Dwight Schultz Fan Forum as my alias MissHarleyQ. Picspam is an added bonus for you.]
I walked in the theater very pessimistic and expecting it to completely fail miserably, but I ended up liking it a lot. I kind of look at it as separate from the original series, but still related to it in some way. I look at it like I look at the new Star Trek reboot; I like the original and the remake for different reasons because they are two different entities that have similar characters and themes. I'm going to go over what I thought of each character and how they compare to the original.
Hannibal -- I think Liam Neeson did a fairly good job in capturing some of the original traits of Hannibal. I enjoyed the way he sort of admired Murdock's insanity. It reminded me of the way Hannibal would treat Murdock in the original A-Team. Something about him still seemed kind of off to me. I don't really know how to word it. I just feel like he didn't put as much into this character as he should have. Plus whenever he whispered or talked quietly his accent kind of exploded. It's kind of weird because in 'Taken' I never noticed his accent crack. But in this it was annoying the heck out of me.
Face -- Bradley Cooper's Face was meh. He wasn't enough of a girly man for me. That's what I always loved about Dirk's Face was that he was SUCH a girly man; a living Ken doll, but he somehow managed to get all these women fawning over him. COOPER!Face /did/ make me laugh a couple times, but all I wanted to do was give him a razor and tell him to shave off his hobo-beard. And to get rid of his awful spray-tan. XD I thought he was OK, but should be more like DIRK!Face.
B.A. -- I was pleasantly surprised by Rampage's portrayal of B.A. Mainly because I was expecting him to completely fail. But then he was actually pretty awesome. I love the way he played off of Murdock. It made me squee inside. The only thing that bothered me was the whole NONVIOLENCE subplot. That was kind of weird and out of place. I guess it was a nod to Mr. T being non-violent or whatever, but it still felt REALLY WEIRD AND FORCED. XDD But I loved Rampage's B.A. when he wasn't being a freaking monk.
Sossa (SP?) -- ...Yeah... She was O.K. I didn't really LIKE her, but I didn't HATE her either. She was just there. She felt like she was just pretty set-dressing. :|
Lynch/The other bad guys -- They were so over the top, it actually did feel like a villian team from the old series. XD They were so OVERLY EVIL. I feel like they throw puppies and kittens into meat grinders in their spare time for fun. And some of their one-liners made me chortle.
[Warning; If you click on the picture to make it bigger and more sex filled then your ovaries may explode.]
MURDOCK!! -- I walked into the theater pretty much knowing Sharlto Copley would do my favourite insane pilot justice. He made me giggle like an idiot when I watched District 9 and I knew he was a big fan of the old series, so I trusted he would do well. He did even better than I thought. I laughed. So hard. I cried. You can really tell that Sharlto was a major fanboy of the original series by all of the heart and soul he puts into the character. It reminded me so much of Dwight's Murdock.... Only I think Sharlto's Murdock was a little more clinically insane if that's even possible  No one will ever be Dwight Schultz's amazing Murdock, but Sharlto Copley does the character right. And I really have nothing to critique the man on, because he just entertained me that much.
And those are pretty much my basic thoughts on the film. It was a good popcorn flick and it entertained me. It's definitely getting added to my movie collection when it's released on DVD.
And I made my family and the friend I saw it with wait until the end of the credits to see Dirk and Dwight. I squeed and flailed and died. Everyone else was like, "lolwut?" I need to educate my friend in the awesomeness that is original A-Team. She actually did say that after seeing the film she wanted to watch the original series. So if you got nothing positive out of this film, then just know it's making some people watch the original. lol
REMEMBER KIDS, UNCLE MURDOCK SAYS THAT HATERS ARE GOING TO HATE ON THE NEW MOVIE. BUT I LIKED IT, PERSONALLY.
