Books 38-42

I knew I'd missed some books (plus got to add the two I just finished).

38-39. Anne Bishop, books 1-2 of The World of the Fae series (The Pillars of the World [REREAD], Shadows and Light).  Fantasy.  5 stars.

Bishop remains one of my all time favorite authors.  While the fae series doesn't enthrall me as much as the Dark Jewels one did, it still has ( Read more... )

I'll have to add him to the list. I think I had him on the old list (pre website demolition) but never could find the books in the library.

I have fallen in love with the Butcher series, but I can't quite get myself "into" the Kim Harrison books yet..... but I ADORE Harry.

Hehe... I love both series. The two characters are strong mirrors in not being perfect and gumming up the works a bit. I like it when the characters aren't Superpowered but have to fly by the seat of their pants and hope it works out. Seems more realistic, yanno?

i hate the 'my female lead has to have a harem' bug that most good preternatural authors eeem to have.

MJDavidson and Katie Mcalister both seem to not have been bit by said bug though.

theres another good preternatual series i found at my library. books are shadows in starlight and shadows in darkness (i think) by elaine cunningham (i think)

Thanks for the recs and that MJD isn't harem-oriented. I don't mind some romance - or a gal dating and things not working out (Harrison manages this in her series), but everyone else seems prey to it.

I think it's the LKH Bug really. She's so successful that every author sort of tries to 'mirror' her formula. And it's annoying. It's almost as bad the 'cuddly' demons and vampires I've ready recent. There are SCARY characters--why do you feel the need to give a hug and a lollypop?
