Baby Seat Opinions

Have a question for the moms of small fry out there.  As it has been a decade since we dealt with baby equipment, there are new gadgets out there... specifically the Bumbo seat and it's competitor the Bebe Pod.  I've not looked at these in the store yet, but from what I can tell online, the Bumbo is soft and rubbery, whereas the Bebe Pod is harder ( Read more... )

Well, i am only pregnant, and have not USED either of these yet, but in my opinion, i don't think i will get either one. Instead, i am going to get a portable, foldable high chair kind that straps to a regular kitchen chair or restaurant chair. I just don't know about a 'sit-up trainer'. And i agree, some babies just don't look like they'd fit in one, legs come in all sorts of chunky sizes and some that are not so chunky.

Several of my friends have Bumbos... i think they are the newest in baby fads, lol.

With the boys, I had a walker that I used as a "high chair" when they were eating. In fact, I don't think we ever owned a high chair for J2 at all, and I had to stop using the high chair for J1 because he learned how to undo the straps and bail out.

The portables just look so darned uncomfortable and like they'd have the same slip-n-slide issue that a high chair does.

I think the difference would be that a high chair has seat belts to keep them in place.

I absolutely hated Autumn's high chair. I got it cheaply at a yard sale, and i just don't have the room for a big one here, i was always tripping over it or moving it out of the way. Such a hassle.

I have the bumbo seat, but it's hard for the baby to get out. And older baby might get frustrated because the leg openings come in at the top a bit so help keep the baby in there. I think the bebe pod has larger openings so a baby would have an easier time getting in and out.

I loved the bumbo seat. So did my daughter. She was getting into it at 2 years of age.

To be honest, though, if you're looking at is as an alternative to a highchair or booster seat, I wouldn't suggest using it. I don't think they come with anything that allows you to strap them down to chairs. I would get one of those portable high chairs (the kind that strap to chairs) instead. I would think it'd be safer.

Their advertising (for both) specifically says they're designed for floor use, as you can't strap them down and you can't strap the kiddo in. The chair-boosters look darn uncomfortable and only have one use - sitting in a chair to eat really - so that's why I was thinking a multi-purpose "chair" would be better.

With the boys they sat in a walker and I sat in the floor and fed them (the joys of small apartments and limited space eh?) We always had tons of fun with that. Someone gave us a walker for Lenae but it has toys permanently mounted on the tray.

Considering how many times Jason escaped anything confining (high chair, walker, playpen, baby bed) and Lenae seems to have similar personality, I figure she is safer sitting on the floor to eat, without a table to bump and/or more room to fall.

Kat could use one at 2? Cool. That's kind of what I was wondering about.
