One of the things interesting about reviews, not only on FS but also on Authonomy, is how some people love something, and others ... not so much. Makes things hard to gauge at times. Should I include something, or not? Does it do anything for the story? Will people laugh and think it's stupid, or will they laugh and read on ... will they cringe

YOU are the author, not them. Someday I'll show you the book on editing - its got what six different proofreaders did to a King novel (not knowing it was King) and how he replied to all of them (basically "get stuffed").
