It was pleasant to have a weekend with nowhere particular to be, except down in the village pub on Sunday for Cerian's favourite Yorkshire pudding lunch. All the family turned up - Ellie with husband, Beth with boyfriend and even James managed to get some time off work to stay with us for a few days. It lulled me into a false sense of normality, ( Read more... )

Mama was re-admitted yesterday for her biopsy - that's to see whether her wound with all the attendent gunk was due to an abscess bursting or a tumour. Then she has to wait to completely heal (because of the risk of infection - the wound is still draining) before the doctors can excise the tumour on her bowel. She'll be in hospital until at least the end of this week, then who knows? Looks as though it's going to be a long drawn-out summer for her.

Thanks for the positive thoughts Ann.

...walking a minimum of 4 miles a day with the dog

You're insane! I thought we had it bad with our daily mile - mile and 1/2 walks.

Murphy's a collie! If they're not thoroughly exercised/entertained, they get bored quickly. Don't forget, they're bred for running up and down steep hills all day rounding up sheep. A mile's nothing. I'm risking the house being destroyed with just 4 miles...

James and I did 10 miles over the fells last week. I was shattered at the end, and the dog slumped in the back of the car and snored all the way home. But the drive took an hour due to all the bloody tourists crawling along the roads and by the time I'd arrived home and let the dog out, he was bouncing around wanting another walk. *weeps* You're right, I'm insane.

I'm sure Suika would love a 4 mile walk too. We're the ones holding her back though! She does something we call "extending the walk". She'll act like she's okay with going home, but as soon as we get to the corner by the house, she takes off in the opposite direction, dragging Darrin behind her. She's a strong, strong little girl, believe me. That usually gets her another 30 minutes of walking time, which brings the total time spent up around an hour and 1/2 to 2 hours. She never gets tired, and if she does, she's always good to go again after about a half hour's rest.

Oh, these working breeds, right?

What a lovely card Roadie - thank you so much!

(Though what a pity Mr. Gordo couldn't be persuaded to join the party!)

Well, I stole the card of the internet, because I didn't have time to make something myself this weekend.

And Mr. Gordo was there. At the time the picture was taken he just wasn't in the yard but in the kitchen raiding the fridge for chocolatey goodness.

Many thanks Ann - and your timing is perfect. My actual birthday was a washout, so I'm celebrating today (May 22nd) instead. At our age, we deserve to have birthdays at a time that suits us, don't you think?
