Ellie, Ronja and I visited Alnwick castle earlier this week and Ronja was entranced (it was the location for Hogwarts and "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves" and various other films close to her heart). I had rather foolishly loaned her my camera and she was snapping away at everything in sight when I suggested that we take a walk through the fountains ( Read more... )

Go you! *does a cheer* Not only do you completely submerge (possibly the wrong word) yourself in your travels, but you widen the horizons at the pub as well!

I'm special apparently.

As if there was any doubt! I envy you and your "small town" life at times. I sounds so cozy and English and quaint!

That fountain looks like fun... on a warm summer day. LOL.

I didn't know the castle from Hogwarts and Robin Hood are one and the same. I LOVED the scenery in that Robin Hood movie.

It was practically all filmed in Northumberland (the extreme north east of England), not in the midlands/Nottingham at all. It always makes us laugh at that point in the film where Robin lands on the coast of England and says "Tonight, we dine with my father in Notting Haam" - he says this at a local landmark, known as "Sycamore Gap" on Hadrian's Wall, so that's quite a detour from the south coast supposedly to the Midlands.

But yes - I love the scenery in Northumberland. Thankfully it's only half an hour down the road from me.
