Laser Eye Surgery - Experience up prior to Surgery

Last May I went for a consult, but at the time they didn't want to consider treating me as I had no prescription history. I am (was) only short-sighted on one eye, thus I had no pressing reason to wear glasses at any time in my life. Eventually though, I got tired of having no true three-dimensional clear vision, as I'd like to blame it for being a sucky pool and probably even suckier golf player (I never played Golf btw).

8 months later, I booked a new appointment. This time we did the whole hog of tests and eventually they wanted to know what type of treatment I wanted. Well, I decided to go for the one where they open a flap (from bit of skin coverying the cornea which they open up and set aside) with a laser, not a mechanical device. That's the "Intralase" bit of the procedure.

Then furthermore, the type of treatment where they create said flap is generally referred to as LASIK. Recovery is faster in contrast to the treatment where the whole outer skin covering the cornea is removed.

The third choice I had to take was if I wanted "wavefront" scanning technology employed. Essentially, this wavefront stuff is just a more modern way of scanning the cornea of imperfections and subsequently allowing the laser to fix issues at much higher resolution. To me it seems a bit overpriced, but to be honest, they get away with it, because people are typically willing to play the extra money for better quality. It's the eyes afterall.

So the cost per eye for that super-duper top-of-the-range treatmeant option would have been £1295. Bit steep and at that point I was wondering if I really want it done. They said they had a slot open as early as coming monday where they had a few unfilled slots open (the consult was on the Friday prior). Not being a total muppet, I decided to use that as leverage to successfully negotiate a 10% discount. After a good 30 mins of phoning around they had it approved and I was booked for my Intralase LASIK procedure of my left eye to happen on Monday the 20th of February.
