We had a distant thunderstorm for a while yesterday afternoon, and I was surprised it wasn't closer because the air had been heavy with moisture all day. Then, shortly after I fed the horses in the evening, another storm let loose. Lots of rain, fortuantely, and no hail. There was a fair amount of electrical activity, but not the loud close kind that makes me wonder what it happening to my neighbors' houses on the surrounding ridges.

One time in Georgia, I was at a party at somebody's house, and outside there was lightning going from cloud to cloud, without a bit of rain. We lay on our backs on the grass and watched the show. It's like the clouds were numbered, and they'd do 1 to 3, 3 to 2, 2 to 3, 1 to 4, 1 and 2 to 3, just stroke after stroke while we were digging it.

The second coolest lightning I ever saw was also in Statesboro. I looked out the front door of our apartment, and a flash strobed the night and froze every raindrop in place. For a second, they were like Georgia roaches after the kitchen light comes on. ("Maybe if we all hold still, he won't see... RUN!")
