So far Torchwood is, even on one viewing I believe, shaping up to be one of the best Sci-fi series to issue from these shores. I think it has succesfully picked up the torch of original writing from Davies' modernised Dr. Who. Measures such as
getting a "fucking" into the opening minutes, quickly killing off a major character and an early plot revolving around sex
may seem somewhat mannered methods of establishing that the series is both for adults rather than children and different from the average 'by the numbers' tale of extraordinary folk, but you've got to do it sometime & why not avoid leading people on?
Tonight's episode kept up the combination of flash and angst, combining
Cyber-fetishwear Hajime Sorayama would be proud of, with some full throttle acting and an attempt to give Jack some sinister depth. We almost didn't notice the plot holes.
I do wish the Beeb hadn't advertised it during the day, though, it's torturing my seven year old Who fans unnecessarily.
