I've just spent practically the whole day playing Dragon Quest V. Its a very nice remake so far. And this time Square Enix actually bothered to translate the party talk. Unfortunately I'm still pissed off at them for removing it from IV ( Read more... )

Yeah for figuring out what to do next, the talk system isn't that great. But in DQV it is fun seeing what your party members have to say about npcs and whatnot. It adds a bit more character to the game. I would've loved hearing Ragnar, Alena, and especially Taloon commenting on situations in DQIV since I like that cast, but nope. Maybe somebody will write up a translation FAQ for what they said down the road.

Now that IV and V are both in the US, I wonder when we'll start hearing about the DS version of VI?

thats wierd I spent most of yesterday playing dq5 on the snes (been on a dragon quest kick after playing through the new translation of dq3 and doing EVERYTHING maxing out 3 charecters of each class and maxing the stats out of 4 party members) after playing 5 I really see how they decided it wasn't a good us release...its basicly a nes game with very very slightly better graphics...I kinda wonder if development began on the nes?

It might've been but who knows? Chun Soft may have been going for a "traditional" look back then. The graphics of the Snes version of V have a charm all their own, but then I grew up with the Nes and Snes so I'm obviously biased.

VI still looks pretty beautiful visually, even today. Will be interesting to see how the DS remake stacks up against that.
