61 days at the max

In under 2 months I will have this baby. If he or she decided to be born tomorrow, I'd have to go to the hospital and the baby might be in the NICU for a week or so, but would likely be otherwise normal. He or she probably weighs close to 5 lbs now. Whoa.

Just discovered this featureI've now been pregnant long enough that I think photos of me ( Read more... )

So you're due in mid-February. That's so soon! As a February baby myself, I congratulate you on your luck at having a baby in the best month of them all. :}

You will post lots of pictures, yes? I for one would like to see them. How exciting!

I know you guys didn't want to know what gender the baby is ahead of time, but have you got names picked out?

Don't get too caught up in the mid-Feb idea. Since you don't know my phone number, I'll let you in on the secret and say that my actual due date is Feb 22nd (or 21st, but whatever). I do my darndest to avoid mentioning the date for fear that everyone I know will start calling and asking if the baby's come yet around Valentine's. So I try to say "late Feb" so people will be thinking more along the lines of Leap Day and not Valentine's. Since I am not seeing a traditional ob, and therefore won't be induced early for non-medical reasons, I am far more likely to go late. Apparently, the average first time mom left to labor without early c-sections or inductions will give birth 8 days overdue. So I figure that means I've got a 50/50 shot at February or March. But March 7th is eviction day when I hit 42 weeks, so I've got 2 more months exactly maximum. I'll try for Feb, just for you though ( ... )

Recite all the names to him/her in the delivery room, and see which one causes the least amount of high-pitched wailing. ;)

I like that plan :) Depending on how exhausted I am, it might come to that.

Have you been taking pictures of the progress of your pregnant belly? I could see myself doing that. "Here's week one. Here's week two."

Maybe you'll have a leap baby on February 29. That'd be kind of freaky.

Yep, we've taken photos every week, like good statistical data nerds. I'll email you the link. The first shot is week 4 though, because you get the first month free and only have to wait for the next 8.

Personally, I'm hoping for Feb 29th or March 1st. Being a leftie and female math nerd, there's something appealing about the most unique birthday out there. And my half birthday is March 1st, which just seems neat.

Re: baby's placenta!?!?! arobynne January 7 2004, 06:15:20 UTC
Okay Cheryl, as a future doctor, can you honestly tell me that this photo isn't interesting? http://www.babiesonline.com/imagegallery/gallery_image.asp?p=%2Fbabies%2Fn%2Fnebraskacollin%2F2686309%2Ejpg
I find it fascinating and bizarre that my body has grown an entire extra organ in the past months (in addition to a new person).

Dan and I were trying to figure out who the placenta belongs to, and we aren't sure. I think it's the baby's. Since the mom's blood and the baby's don't mix, and the placenta is where the change-over happens, I don't understand how they don't come in contact there. I'll ask the midwives tonight and see if they can give a good explanation.
