QUESTION:

I guess you can't bring food with you on a flight over the border, can you?

I'm flying to Minnesota on the 20th to see Oliver. Because we'll be apart for Valentine's, we're going to celebrate once I'm there and I really, REALLY want to try and make this for him ( Read more... )

I've done it before. Not baked goods like cupcakes or a cake, but packages of candy, chocolate bars, and dried fruits - airplane snack foods. You just can't bring raw, uncooked stuff across, like meat, eggs, etc. You could definitely get away with putting that cake in your checked suitcase, but you would have to put the truffles on when you get there. They turn the suitcases every which way and throw them around a bit, so they would fall off. You could keep those with you in your carry-on backpack, perhaps. Don't take them out of your bag and specifically show them to the security people, but it's not going to show up on the scanners so they won't ask. Also, don't put any books, boots or heavy items around the cake in your checked luggage, just clothes and soft stuff. I bring my parents candy and Canada-specific food all the time when I go to NJ.

Have fun in Minnesota, you two lovebirds ^_^

i would say that they are probably pretty strict about it.. especially if it's not a store bought, sealed item.. and that the scanners will show that you've brought it. probably best thing to do is actually call the airport and talk to someone in security about it? it would suck to do all that work and then they confiscate it from you.
