I'd say that it's a complimet that they let you off the hook too. I'd wager if they thought you were in real trouble, they'd have rescheduled or found a way to set it up. The fact that they feel confident enough in you to send comments through e-mail says a lot, maybe. I get the catharsis thing, though, completely.
