If the computer programs from that movie were prepared to use heat-based battery power to fuel their civilization, why not create a virtual reality that consisted entirely of grass fields and plug cows into the matrix instead? I mean, cow bodies produce far more BTUs (British thermal units) than human bodies. Why even bother with humans who need to be convinced that suffering is necessary before allowing themselves to be happy? It takes far less energy to make a cow happy. "Here cow, endless sprawling hills of luscious green grass." Done. Stupid matrix computers. :P
Didn't you even watch the Matix? The machines did run on solar power, and so the humans recked the sky so that light wouldn't get through.
But hey guys! My real interest is not in the machines and what they want. What I'm curious about is this whole "advanced race retiring into more efficient world?" Thing. Paragraph 3? Anyone?
Ho ho ho! It is this very crisis that is at the core of the Altered Carbon: a fine novel indeed! If minds could be copied, we'd have to be all "what is self?" for a while.

They recked it so bad, that the "W" was destroyed in the process!
