Fair warning, this next part will have Phantasy Star IV spoilers since Rune's background is very much a spoiler for the game, and even in a way to previous games in the series (sans III). If this bothers you, skip ahead to affection, and I kindly left some space just in case since even the first paragraph of his background is spoilerish)

And yes, I'm copying and pasting from my app.

[Background]

Rune was born on the planet Dezolis in the Esper Mansion, as is typical of most of his kind, being that he is an esper. What was not typical of his kind was that he ended up being the fifth chosen Lutz.

At a rather young age he was forced to take responsibility for being the actual leader of the Espers and also to have the memories of their original leader, Lutz, along with his predecessors. Quite a large deal for a young boy.

No wonder he gained the attitude he had. Those who knew the truth of who and what he was treated him with a great deal of respect and reverence, but really, he wasn’t all that sure about himself. He knew he had a duty to fulfill though, and he would do his best to not let anyone down.

His duty was to look for signs of Dark Force being resurrected again, and to choose one to defeat the being that revived every thousand years. To fulfill that, he had to leave the Esper Mansion, the safe haven of his people and travel not only among his own planet, but even to Motavia. Quite the feat if he wasn’t who he was, since space travel was nearly impossible in his time.

But one ability of the Espers is teleportation, that allowed him to travel easily enough. In his travels he did meet many people, most he kept at a distance, but some he did grow close to. Two people in particular on Motavia he counted as friends. One was Grandfather Dorin of Tonoe, and the other was a hunter named Alys Brangwin.

He and Alys did become very close, well as close as two very secretive people can be. She was one person Rune found he could relax around because she wouldn’t pry about his life, and in return he didn’t pry about hers. With Alys being a hunter who traveled her own world, she was also useful to Rune to keep an eye out for what he needed, though he never did tell her that. They did drift apart from time to time, but they would always meet up again somehow. To Rune this was a sign that she would help lead him to where he needed to be.

Eventually Rune did meet with Alys again and this time she was with her partner. He had known about the boy, but had not yet met him. But even though he was rather rude and arrogant at first, he could see that this boy could be the one he had been looking for. He would have stuck around this time, but he had other things to do and left Alys to handle matters knowing they would meet again and very soon.

And they did, right before she died. He really regretted that there was nothing he could do for her, but listen to her last words to him. She asked him to protect Chaz, and he promised he would. That promise he meant, because he knew at that time that Chaz was likely the one he had been looking for and he needed to help the boy fulfill their eventual goal.

And they did fulfill their goal, but in doing so, Rune definitely did not remain his same self, and left Chaz in the end to continue his travels.
[Personality]

Rune is definitely far from a simple man, in fact he has a few different faces he will show to people that he meets, all depending on his own feelings towards the person and what he is actually up to at the time.

Normally, he shows an air of arrogance and vanity. He definitely appears to think very highly of at least his abilities, along with his knowledge. This arrogance however is actually a front for Rune to hide behind. If he appears open, honest, and forthright, to the point of almost being insulting, people don’t tend to delve deeper, which suits him well, because there are many things he can’t say about himself.

The interesting thing is, he only actually acts this way to people he actually seems to like or respect. If he doesn’t, he’d completely ignore them. If someone were to actually read further into his insulting comments, they are meant to either gain an amusing reaction, or even to give a veiled compliment.

But truly, all of this is meant to hide many things. There is the obvious that he needs to hide who he is and be able to pass himself off as a Parmanian. In his own world, Espers aren’t always thought of highly and can be in great danger, so he needs to keep that to himself for his own safety. But there is more than just that, because Rune is quite capable of getting out of trouble and defending himself. What he is truly hiding is the fact that he actually lacks confidence in himself. True, he has great abilities, but he knows he pales in comparison to his predecessors. That and he will always have to live with the knowledge that he had been unable to save his closest friend, and in his eyes, Alys died because he hadn’t done what he should have and he could have protected her, had he been better, or had he stayed with her.

True, in the end things worked out, but he will always hold that regret.

However, interestingly enough, once he gains some closeness to someone and respect them, he actually tends to become far kinder overall. He may still tease, but that is much more good natured teasing among friends. But even when he gains some closeness to someone, he still doesn't talk much about himself besides what he openly shows. For instance, he has no problem showing off true magic to others and even saying what it is, but to say who he really is, that took a great deal before he came out and said it.

Of course, via dreams, some will likely notice that he has memories that aren't his own, that will be very hard for him to hide, but he will definitely do his utmost to hide it until he has no other choice.

[Specialties/Abilities] He’s one of the very few people in the Algo Solar System in his time who can use true magic. Of course, this is just a normal ability for an Esper, but for most, it would seem very strange. He also has a nice selection of techniques that are more normal among people to use. Rune does have some knowledge of healing, but tends to only use it for dire emergencies (in the game, he had nothing to recover HP, but had the resurrection tech), but overall, his skills lend towards doing damage and defending himself and others.

He does fight with a staff, but his ability with that is limited, he’s more the type to use flashy techs and magic to deal with enemies and obstacles in his path.

Oh, and can't forget the wonderful ability to teleport to any place he has been to (except outside of Somarium, of course) and also outside of a dangerous place, that is among the skills he had in game, but needs a special mention because he can and will use it.

[Affection] If any female can actually gain his interest, they can have their way with him, the player doesn't object. On a more serious note, Rune isn't a romantic type, he'll be a hard one for any girl who may take an interest in him, but he oddly seems to respect people who can deal with his attitude and give back to him.
[Fighting] Rune may not have been the awesome swordsman of the party, but he definitely can hold his own in a battle. He won't get into a fight unless provoked, but expect a ton of magic to come from him if he is. Keep in mind that he helped cause their spaceship to crash at one point due to his magic.

[Other Facts] I'm definitely open to all sorts of stuff, and since Rune is likely to always lack canonmates, feel free to have fun with him, he's at a serious disadvantage here and that will show fast.
