http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/102948510/29425331 Appearance: Kenzie is a scrawny, average-looking American teen. She has straight, dirty blond hair that falls just past the midpoint of her back, brown eyes, and a fair complexion. She stands at roughly 5’5”. She could be considered pretty, but she doesn’t really ever make an effort to accentuate her attractiveness, so she usually gives off a very “plain” vibe. Her only distinguishing mark is a scar surrounding her right ankle from the time she got her foot caught in a bear trap. She can usually be found wearing jeans, loose-fitting shirts, and things involving animal fur. She also has a retainer. While her retainer isn’t really visible, most people know it’s there from the slight lisp it gives her.
Personality: Kenzie is a modern-day follower of the Greek goddess Artemis. She’s strong-willed, energetic, intelligent, and has a good head on her shoulders, though she’s also prone to moodiness and impatience and all those fun, typical teenage emotions. She’s a bit “different,” too--she believed, for a very long time, that Artemis was her personal companion (that no one else could see, naturally) and that she’s the one who taught her how to hunt with a bow and arrow (which she’s used ever since--it’s not that Kenzie doesn’t like guns, she just doesn’t like the kick back and noise they make when fired). She stopped believing that around age 12, but that later evolved into a full-blown belief in the goddess herself. She doesn’t identify with any one specific religion, though her worship of Artemis is seen by some around her as Neopagan. (Others think she’s a heretic and will be taking a trip to Hell one day. Alas.) Not that it matters; on top of all this, she’s fiercely independent and couldn’t give a hoot what anyone thinks.
Kenzie comes from a family of hunters, so she’s a bit rough around the edges and isn’t bothered by blood and gore, as long as it’s only blood and gore involving game; anything else just upsets her. She’s well-adjusted to life in rural Maine and prefers quiet, open, natural spaces. She’s used to being called a bit weird by her classmates, but as far as she’s concerned they can all shut up because she’s the one keeping the predators off of their farmland. Hmph.
History:
PRE-RIFT HISTORY
Kenzie’s mother and father, Laura and Bruce, were killed in a small plane crash when she was 4 years old. Since then, she’s been living with her grandparents and her uncle John (all from her father’s side of the family) in Kokadjo, Maine, where she helps out with the family hunting business. They preserve and sell meats, furs, and other animal products. Their business has never really “taken off,” but they make enough money to survive. The Artemis thing happened slowly over time. Her uncle John used to look after her when her grandparents had to go out of state on business and things, and he thought the Greek myths would make excellent bedtime stories. She enjoyed hearing those tales so much that John eventually bought her a book of Greek myths for kids, and the rest is history. Her life has been pretty normal by the standards she’s familiar with. She hangs out with kids her age, rides her bike, goes to movies, swims... she also misses her parents very much, which sometimes really affects her, but she’s always been able to cope with the help of her wonderfully loving, slightly overbearing grandparents, and her lazy-but-cool uncle. Aside from the death of her parents, she’s never really faced any adversity.
POST-RIFT HISTORY
She left Chicago a few months ago in order to return "home." Unfortunately, the Kokadjo she knew and loved was not the Kokadjo this world had to offer her-it was virtually a ghost town with no Douglases to be found anywhere, so our little Airbender wound up journeying around parts of Canada until she was caught by customs and deported back to the States.
In the months she's been away from Chicago, she's honed her elemental skills a little more, but no major events have gone down. Her decision to return came shortly after she realized Chicago was really the only place that would actively try to keep her safe. She also realized she misses Anne. d'aw
