Once, a few years ago roughly to the day, I was on a recruiting dinner for the Berkeley math department(*), and I ordered a hot chocolate, whereupon several others at the table decided that the breezy weather was a beautiful time for a nice, warm, thick beverage as well. it's like that in india to the degree that a lot of things are sold only in certain seasons or certain times of day. i tried to go to my second favorite lassi shop in lucknow in late november, and was met with a patronizing smile at the silly american who thinks you drink lassis any old time.

sometimes but not always this is connected to health things; e.g. if they'll spoil more quickly in certain seasons or if it depends on the cold to prepare it without refrigerators; or if bugs will be attracted to it at certain times of day.

If by "hot chocolate" you mean what Spaniards do, then it is always the time for hot chocolate.
