swine flu or not swine flu?

I am having a lot of trouble breathing, even after taking asthma medication and despite having relatively clear nose-and-throat. This new symptom comes at the heels of a slightly runny nose (which has mostly abated), and the day before that, intense sinus/throat pain (almost entirely gone). Throughout the past three days, I've been having vague ( Read more... )

Yikes. Those are rather different from the symptoms I experienced, but they are still on the list of swine flu symptoms. Alas, it seems likely (notwithstanding the fact that swine flu has the most generic symptoms of any epidemic I've ever heard of. What illness DOESN'T involve many of the following?):

Symptoms are similar to the common flu and can include high fever, cough, headache, general aches, fatigue, eye pain, shortness of breath and lack of appetite. Some people have also reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.Do you have a fever? I looked up the swine flu symptoms online, and thought something similar.

Although I've been exhausted, I've been hit worse before -- in particular, I've been able to cook, clean, and get work done (albeit at a more lethargic pace than usual).

Do you have a fever? I did for only the first 2-3 days, then I had slightly elevated, but sub-fever body temperature.

I have neither had fever nor chills -- right now, that's the only thing that's preventing me from thinking that I have H1N1 for certain.

I am trying to look up medical hotlines to call, but even if I don't find one, you're right -- I should at least call my physician tomorrow morning, especially if I continue to have trouble breathing.

As far as I know, swine flu symptoms are, in most cases, almost exactly the same as seasonal flu symptoms. Unless you had trouble breathing the last time you had seasonal flu, I'm guessing that you have something different. I would advise talking to a doctor.
