They decided to open up the case again. It has been months since Sonny touched it for fear that he would lose his mind if he kept trying and finding nothing. They are opening up the case, and Lena went head to head with Rick. It was necessary. They got what they needed out of him and more, and there's no way in fucking hell that he will ever be bothering her again.
With Gates at his side, they scared Rick so much that he pissed his pants. There had been black blood on his hands before he washed it off but Rick is alive, and it's more than he deserves. If he ever shows his face again, Sonny has made it clear to him that he will kill him. Slowly. That what he experienced tonight was only a taste of what death would be like at Sonny and Gates hands should he lay one finger on anyone that they care about again.
In a way, it released a lot of pent up anger that he has had in relation to the situation. There are plenty of fathers whose daughters have been in abusive relationships that would give anything to spend some alone time with that abuser. None of them would be able to do it with quite as much gusto as Sonny and Gates but that's beside the point.
It is not until the anger has cleared from his system, and he has showered that he exits his office to find Lena. It is not until he is certain that nothing of that darkness, griminess remains that he lets himself be around other people. He would be surprised if she was out of her room. Seeing them together for even that second, knowing what kind of a fucker Rick is... it was enough to make his skin crawl. She had to have his hands on her again, act like she was ready to take him back again.
To say he's concerned would be an understatement.
