Don't be alarmed. I am just genuinely curious as to what the answer is.

What is hope and why should it matter?

Its the feeling that things will get better and a reason to get up in the morning. Even if its a lie, at least you get through one more day.

"Even if it's a lie." But if one places hope on a lie, isn't this self-defeating and eventually pointless especially if one knows it?

To what purpose does hoping for a better world help accomplish when we can easily ignore the true, staggering depth of the injustice ingrained within our social systems and still call vague, sunny dreams hope?

If hope is just something there to make us feel better, isn't it just a lie, and therefore an unreliable foundation to keep us going?

I'm not sure how to describe hope.

But it's what keeps us going. At least, it keeps me going. Even if it's faint.

hope is the feeling that things can get better, but mostly i think it's the feeling that things can change (see: Barack Obama)- and that's what makes us willing to get up and try again and work harder, when we fall down.
