Is there such a thing as a non-secular organization that serves the same function as a church but without the whole deity thing?

I like the idea of having a community that meets regularly to support humanitarian efforts (and each other) and teach children not to be assholes.

If I were more ambitious I would totally start one.

have you tried a buddhist temple? buddha's not considered a deity, and we're pretty nice people. :)
