þ and ý

Ok, WTF. Every time I try to type þ or ý in word (ctrl+alt+t, '+y), I don't get a letter and it switches the language (for the dictionary, I think) to Arabic (Saudi Arabia) . This only happens in Word, only with the International keyboard (I can get both letters with the Icelandic keyboard just fine), and only in lowercase (I can type Þ and Ý). All the other letters I know how to type work fine. I used to be able to type these in word. And I can type both of these in every program but word. I don't get it. ><;

I have no idea how to fix it, and everything I can think of to google just gets me stuff on how to set up the international keyboard or the character code for þ. Adding new shortcuts for þ or ý don't change anything. However, setting it up to auto-replace a combination of letters (eg, th*) with þ and ý works. Ish.

AND IT JUST WORKED PERFECTLY FOR LIKE FIVE SECONDS WTF?

Ok. It seems that when I switch to Junicode and try to type þ and maybe ý, it switches back to Times New Roman but allows me to type þ and ý for a little while before stopping again. *confused*

And sometimes it switches to Hebrew, not Arabic.

....And disabling everything but English and Spanish under MS Office => Tools => Language settings fixed it. Though if I type ctrl+alt+t and then a space too quickly, the space doesn't show up, which is disconcerting and doesn't happen for any other letters. But I can deal with it. I wonder if I can add back the other languages without it going wonky?

That would be a 'no'. It seems like having languages that don't use complex (ie, written right-to-left) scripts screws things up somehow. Spanish, Welsh, Icelandic, Greek, Russian and Japanese are ok. Arabic, Hebrew and Yiddish are not. Not that it really matters that much, since I don't write enough Hebrew to ever make use of this stuff. It's just annoying that apparently I can't have it enabled and still be able to type Old English, Icelandic or Welsh without switching keyboards.

argh
