Yeah, I surprisingly get that too, from Louisiana and Texas people at LSU. They always ask me if I'm from Alabama. I don't know how they figured I was from Alabama just by my voice...I didn't even think I had an accent.

On a related note: Louisiana accents are annoying. They sound southern, yet as if they are from Boston/upstate New York. Curious.
