http://kingdomhearts.wikia.com/wiki/Namine Character History:
In Kindgom Hearts, all sentient beings are formed of three parts: The Heart, The Soul, and The Body (or, one's emotions/connections, one's self, and one's physical form.) Thanks to the experiments of Ansem the Wise and his apprentices, a way was formed of extracting the heart from the body by overwhelming it with darkness. Hearts pulled from bodies in this manner formed 'heartless' shadow creatures, which are the main adversaries in the first Kingdom Hearts game. Typically, the body and soul would fade into nothingness without its heart, but beings with strong wills were capable of surviving past this stage, and were referred to as 'Nobodies' (the main adversaries in the second Kingdom Hearts game.)
Namine was a 'Nobody' formed by the extraction of Kairi's (the main female lead's) heart from Sora's (the main male lead's) body. (Yes. Really.) As such, both Kairi and Namine exist at the same time in physical form, but because of the unusual method of extraction Namine was never considered a true nobody by anyone aware of what the term meant. (Except Sora, who is a dumbass)
Nevertheless, she was captured by the Organization (a loose conglomeration of the few existing Nobodies) and held prisoner in Castle Oblivion in order to tempt Sora to come rescue her. This...actually ended up working, and Sora (who is still a dumbass) fell right into their trap. Because of Namine's ability to manipulate the 'chains of memories' in Sora's heart (through drawing), the Organization has her completely re-write Sora while he's trapped inside the castle maze, leading him to believe that Namine, instead of Kairi, has been his best friend all along. However, because of the amazing power of Sora's friendship, heart, (and dumbassery,) Namine realizes that she's doing a bad thing to him, and finally stands up against her captors.
In doing so, she allows Sora the chance to defeat Axel, Larxene, and Marluxia (the main baddies) and come to her rescue, where she promises him that she will re-write his memories and make everything go back to normal again. Sora consents, and Namine constructs a glass artichoke (again, through drawing) for him and his friends to sleep in while she works.
This takes a whole. Entire. Year. During which time she causes everyone who knew Sora to forget about him so they can continue their lives while he is repaired. A mysterious man called 'DiZ' offers to house Sora's artichoke while Namine is working on him, which she agrees to (since staying in the stronghold of one's enemies is kind of a bad idea.) BUT it turns out that she can't complete the process of fixing Sora until a missing piece of him is returned - Sora's Nobody, Roxas, who was...also...created...when Kairi's heart was extracted from Sora's body. Yes, this is a kids game.
So DiZ and his pal Riku go steal Roxas from the Organization, where he's been hanging out, and stick him into a virtual reality simulation so that he won't notice while Namine is stripping him down to his bare essentials and inserting him into Sora (kids game). However, she starts to feel kind of bad about what she's doing, and goes to visit Roxas in the simulation as much as she can in order to get to know him, and tries to prepare him for what is to come. This really pisses DiZ off, so as soon as Namine finishes setting things into inescapable motion, he hands her off to Riku and tells him to kill her (This guy is one of the protagonists, by the way.)
Riku, being NOT a dumbass, refuses, and helps Namine escape.
She spends the rest of her time watching out for Sora from the corridors of darkness, popping in and out of worlds (as Nobodies are prone to do) to give advice or manipulate people from behind the scenes. This seems to be going well...
...until she spontaneously pops into the Nexus, and finds she can't pop out again.
Character Personality:
Namine is pure
Yamato Nadeshiko. Kind, demure, polite, generally submissive to the wills of others, always looking for the most peaceful solution to any problem. Despite these doormat-like traits, Namine has a very strong backbone when it comes to people that she cares about, and an odd sort of spiritual-like wisdom to assist her in making sure that life goes well for them. As a Nobody, she feels that she does not deserve to exist...which causes her to invest in other, 'real' people more often than herself. Although quiet, she is happiest when in the company of friends, and is extremely easy to get along with.
Its difficult to place an age on her, since she is small and tends to take up as little space as possible while simultaneously employing a sage-like wisdom, but most canon interpretations place her at 'almost 16.'
Powers:
This is where Namine gets interesting.
First of all, she draws. Most of the time, her drawings are quick, gesture sketches done in crayon, but she is capable of significant and complex works of art when she has the time (or need.) However, the subjects of her drawings rarely are products of her own imagination--more frequently, she draws important fragments out of the memories of people she is close to. She can't read a person's mind, but she is prone to taking inspiration from the instances she glimpses, even if she does not entirely understand what they mean. She is rarely far from a sketchbook (even if I have no idea where she hides it in her tight white jumper-dress.)
Secondly, as a Nobody, she is capable of accessing the 'corridors of darkness.' This can best be described as an alternate medium from reality in which denizens of darkness are capable of travelling in order to access different spacial points--a bit like teleportation, except that it requires concentration to open a door, and knowledge of where one is going to be arriving at. This can be attuned to a location or to a person, if Namine knows them well enough.
Thirdly, and in extreme cases only, Namine is capable of manipulating memories (generally through her art). I will mostly be ignoring this talent, unless it is needed for a plot device, since I suspect she can only do this with people she is extremely close to (like Sora) or people she has become extremely close to.
Finally, Namine has access to a limited spectra of emotion. While not a power in and of itself, it is an extremely rare trait among the emotionless Nobodies and their missing hearts, and was likely a side effect of her unusual birth.
Beyond this, she's a fairly normal-seeming girl of lithe build.
No samples this time around. They were pretty boring, and then I used the one for an intro anyhow.
