Katrina: Hi, my name is Katrina. How may I help you?
Jason:Hi
Jason:I'm having a problem with my wireless card
Jason:However, I'm not sure which it is. It doesn't say what version
Jason:I know it's WMP54G
Jason:But I don't know which version
Jason:I believe it's v4, but I can't be positive
Katrina:What is your Operating System?
Windows XP
Katrina:Based on your current network configuration/setup, the quickest way to resolve your concern is to use our new Easy Connect tool. This is an online tool that automates the fix for your problem. It has very siple steps and animations that make it easy to follow.
Jason:When I try to install the drivers, the autostart for the CD starts up the program, then immediately shuts it off
Jason:I don't have the internet on that computer, though. I just have wireless on my laptop.
Katrina:We have this automated tool that will fix your problem
Katrina:Can you wired that computer to the router?
Jason:I would be able to...but then I would have to take out my wireless card
Jason:And then it wouldn't be able to read it and install it
Katrina:You only have on epci slot available?
Katrina:Install adapter firt
Katrina:first
Katrina:then
Jason:Yes, the only other one is for a USB port for my keyboard/mouse
Katrina:when windows detects the device..install drivers automatically
Jason:It's not installing my drivers, though
Jason:That's my problem. When I go through the device manager it doesn't work, it won't read anything
Jason:I went through both setup utilities, but I still get the ? in device manager
Katrina:you said the modelo # is wmp54g?
Jason:Yes
Katrina:It is a pci adapter not usb
Jason:Yes
Katrina:What are you saying about usb port?\
But my other port is for USB for my mouse and keyboard
Katrina:I do not understand
Jason:PCI slots have different capabilities. They are add ons and peripherals to the computer
Jason:Mine happens to be set up for wireless internet and USB
Jason:I can't install the wireless through a land line because i'd have to take the wireless out
Katrina:Try different pci slot
Katrina:change the IRQ numbers on the pc
Jason:I can't take the USB out because I wouldn't be able to use the computer
Jason:I would have tried changing the IRQ numbers, but my computer wasn't made in the 80s and doesn't have a processor made primarily of tubes, thank you
Jason:Any more suggestions?
Katrina:Try different computer check if the adapter works in a different computer
Katrina:if it works in adapter is ok
Katrina:if not retrun then have it replaced
Jason:The adaptor works fine. It's not the adaptor. The software would install if the adaptor didn't work. The software isn't working
Katrina:if it work computer problem
Jason:I'm asking for software help
Jason:Is there someone I can talk to who would be able to help me?
Katrina:the model # is wmp54g on xp..you do not need to install the setup
Katrina:you only need the drivers
Jason:Yes, and to install the drivers you need to go through the driver setup program
Katrina:download drivers from the web.,,still isolate problem
Jason:I have, it didn't work
Jason:I tried all three versions
Jason:v1 v2 v4
Katrina:you will let windows install the drivers
Jason:None of them worked
Katrina:ISolate
Jason:Windows can't install the drivers
Katrina:try different computer
Jason:Windows isn't connected to the internet to find the drivers
Jason:I'm trying to get the internet. I'm trying to install a wireless internet card
Katrina:probably windows does not detect the drivers
Jason:XP doesn't have the driver
Jason:And how would I go about getting Windows to detect the drivers?
Katrina:windwos will detect the drivers'
Katrina:automatically
Jason:It's not. That's why I came here. That's why I'm talking to you. it's not detecting them
Jason:This is me troubleshooting the sages of Linksys to find out how to install the drivers since Windows isn't recognizing them
Jason:That's what i addressed earlier
Jason:I need to install the drivers. I'm asking for help
Jason:I can't hook up to a land line because I have too few PCI slots
Jason:The CD isn't working properly
Katrina:download drivers from the website
Jason:I did. I said that earlier. I downloaded all of the versions of the drivers
Jason:None of them worked
Jason:You see...what we have here is a conversation. Like math, it builds upon itself
Jason:If you can't handle that there was a foundation for what I'm saying now and building off of, may I speak with someone who knows something about computers?
Katrina:Try isolate problem
Jason:Or someone with English as at least a second language?
Katrina:install the adapter in diff computer using the drivers that came with
Katrina:if installs, drivers are ok
Jason:You're awfully fast with the index cards
Katrina:Problem with the pc
Jason:Problem with PC...but wait...
Jason:If the card is bad...
Jason:Take back to store?
Jason:Exchange for another?
Katrina:Yes
Jason:What if PC is bad?
Jason:Do I still take the card back?
Jason:Exchange for another?
Katrina:have your computer check
Jason:That's good advice
Jason:I'm going to write that down somewhere
Katrina:Ok
Jason:It might be my desk that's causing the problem
Katrina:Anything else?
Katrina:Ok
Katrina:Anything else?
Jason:It's tilts to the side a little
Jason:Do you recommend anything for that?
Katrina:You can try using another adapter..like usb
Jason:Do you think that would help? I was thinking about using a book. I guess I could always take it back to the store
Jason:You know...exchange it for another
Katrina:When did you purchase it>
Jason:Four months ago at Ikea
Jason:Not exactly four months ago, mind you
Jason:So am I overdue for the whole warrenty thing? Or do you think they'll let me slide at four months?
Katrina:Stores have 1 month warranty period..this adapter should be replaced by linksys
Katrina:but before we replaced we have to make sure that is a hardware problem
Jason:That's very true
Jason:I'm going to write that down, as well. You're just a quote machine tonight
Katrina:isloate
Katrina:manually reinstall drivers on differnt computer
Jason:And then what?
Jason:Build a magical bridge out of kittens and small children for them the cross over on?
Katrina:i solate problem
Katrina:computer
Jason:Are you sure it isn't just the desk?
